Reflection 09/12/2011

How did the exemplar project we looked at differ in terms of the expectations you have for your own projects?

The exemplar project that we've looked at, our expectations were much higher and when we were examining we marked it Band 3 in the mark scheme which was around 5 points but it got 9-10 marks. We were quite shocked that they got almost full mark because their outcome was like a report while we are doing a documentary, pamflet, posters etc. I think that ours will be more interesting and unique than the exemplar.

Group Project (Individual)

Some of the things that I’ve contributed to the group project were I didn't miss any lessons of GP for this group project. I was given different homework and I've done it on time. Our group project is about peak oil and our main goal for this project was to create a documentary to show different scenarios of what till happen if there's no more oil in the world and how can we prevent this from happening. Our idea was that we show awareness about the peak oil and using hybrid cars and electric cars we can preserve the oil for a longer period of time. I had the idea of using hybrid and electric cars as our outcome of this project so I've shared my ideas to my group members. I was also assigned to check out the BMW first electric car in Pavilion and I've done that. I took pictures and asked them about how the car works etc. I even got the brochure for it. I've also shared my ideas about using Hong Kong and Singapore as a case study of how effective they were on public transport because in Malaysia majority of people drive cars and not using the public transport.

The things that I would do differently next time are be more focus. That's my and our group first priority. To be more focus because we sometimes get distracted. Better time management because sometimes I'll do my homework a day before it due for this project and it is not a good thing because I will not take it seriously and this will let my group members down so I need better time management for my actual group project.

What I've learnt about working together were that it is not just only about you as the previous project that we did was our individual project. So on this project we need to share your ideas to your team members and discuss effectively and share the work loads effectively. I've also learnt that we need to be on time for our meetings (mostly on facebook) so that others members don't have to wait for another hour for someone to come online.

The things that has been good/challenging about working as a part of a group were that we really bonded because before we started this project we really didn't talk to each other that much so this project and us as a team really bonded us. We know each other better and we know what are their weakness and strength. The thing that's quite challenging is that sometimes we argue on the ideas or things we have to do whether if it was relevant to our project or if it was necessarily to be on our project. The other thing that was challenging was that one of our group members procrastinate a lot and sometimes he doesn't work a lot so that the main problem that we have to solve as quickly as possible.

Things that I've learnt about deciding on and planning a project was that it is not as easy as it seems. It took quite a while to agree on what we want to do. We sometimes argue and we don't go anywhere so that consume some of the time that we had. Planning and producing research was alright because our group had to research on what is peak oil, hybrid cars and electric cars. Reading and presenting my ideas was alright because I have a clear idea of what my ideas were and sometimes my ideas and other group member's ideas were the same. Overall I think I've done a good job and hope that I will improve on my weakness and be constant on my strength.

Peak Oil Group Project Reflection (group)

Throughout the time when we were doing our mock group project, we came to realize certain things. One, we were discussing more frequently than before. We were listening to all the options and ideas given and we developed them until we were satisfied with the results. We were working well within the time frame given, making sure that all the homework that needed to be completely was done and that everyone had completed their specific tasks. But when we looked back at the past couple of weeks, as a group, we realized that we were frequently distracted, often going of topic. We also had the tendency to assign everyone the same homework and that lead to some people not doing anything at all for homework. With the discussions, we noticed that sometimes, certain people would be leading the discussions and not leave any room for others to make suggestions or say their opinions. So to improve ourselves and to make sure that when we do our actual group project, we don't make the same mistakes, we decided to change a little bit. For starters we would make sure that EVERYONE will be contributing to the discussions and that everyone will have a say in what the group will do next. Also, when it comes to setting homework, we would split up the work, getting only some to do the research and to get the others to focus on developing ideas and other pieces of work. And most importantly, we will try to stay on the topic and try not to get distracted. Overall we have come a long way from last year and we have seen improvements. But we still have more to improve on and we shall try our best during this group project.

Gantt Chart

Blog review: Complete a post answering the following questions

1. What is a Gantt Chart?

A Gantt Chart is a type of bar chart that provides a graphical illustration of a schedule that

helps to plan, coordinate, and track specific tasks in a project. Some Gantt charts also show

the dependency relationships between activities. Gantt charts illustrate the start and finish

dates of the terminal elements and summary elements of a project. Here's an example of a

Gantt Chart.

2. Why should we use them?

We should use Gantt Chart because it is an easy organizing tool that everyone can use

it easily. You can use it to plan how long a project should take and it lays ut the order in which

the tasks need to be carried out. You can look when the task started and when it is due. A

Gantt Chart lets you see immediately what should have been achieved at any point in time.

3. Your top tips for using Gantt Charts

-Fill in your project plan structure

-Use different colors on the bar so that it is easier to differentiate

-You can double link the bar

-You must know how to use the Gantt Chart properly before you do it so that you won't get

confuse and mess up your Gantt Chart

Reflection on what we did today

We just finished creating the wikispace and we have updated our agendas. We also discussed about the outcome of our peak oil project. Here are the outcome that we came up with:

- To spread awareness.
- Documentary on how transportation effects peak oil.
( How much petrol an average car consumes)
- Future scenarios.
(Resource war, economy)
- How to help.
( Electric cars, hybrid, earth hour/day)

Group Reflection

In my group we're going to focus on the future perspective for Peak Oil in more detail than others because we think that it is important for people to know what will happen after when we reaches Peak Oil or when there's no more oil in the world. What will our life be like? Will it be the same or will it change? Are we going to face a resource war in the future? Are we going to fight each other for the last amount of supply of oil? There are a lot of question that we have to ask ourself about what will happen if oil runs out. So we think that it is very important that we think about the future of oil and how we can conserve it for the future generation. I mean non of us want to have war, our life will be in danger and the place will be horrible. So I think we should start thinking about the future and try to use lesser oil everyday.

Peak Oil Reflection

LI To explore and have awareness of an issue from a variety of view point
     Work Collaboratively

Our group work is going well because we discuss about some of the issues during class and we work together quite effectively. Also we discuss on the national, global and future view and over the weekend we have been looking at the Peak Oil about what is the aftermath of having no oil in the world. We also discussed about the different countries point of view on oil. We also discussed on the video of what our life will be like when oil suddenly disappear. Overall our group is going well and I hope we'll be like this when we do the actual group project.

Reflection for Independent Project

What did you find easy?

I already have the base of my project because I used the mock one (Is it ever right to take someone's life?) to be my actual project. So I don't have to start from scratch. So I already have some of the information already and I just need to find more information and edit the essay.

What did you find difficult? Why?

The Malaysia point of view because it's quite hard to find information because you'll can't find any information from the malaysia's website.

What problems did you encounter? How did you overcome these?

Informations on Malaysia's point of view. I overcome this by finding information in international website. Basically a website that ends with .com and it took me for like few hours to find it so yea.

Court case and legal preparation

What three things did your team do well in the lead up to trial

- we were organized and the chief prosecutor (J) will always check on us if we're doing or jobs correctly and stuff.

- The researchers helped us to find the statistics and (JM) found us a very good website that we could use to attack the other group :D and made a very sad video about holocaust.

- Almost everyone attended the meetings that we had

What three did things did your team do well on the day of the trial.

- We were great in our outfits :P

- We were in character very well :D For example (S) had to be emotional as he was a holocaust survivor and his whole family were killed and me :D being the CFO and had to be serious about money

- We cooperate

What do you think you did well before and during the trial

- I had an idea of putting the scripts into the iPads :D so it doesn't seem so obvious that we are reading it out from the paper

- I don't know if I did great or I was lucky (BC) owned himself :D sorry (BC) but I could against the questions that the cross examiner on the other side gave. For example when the cross examiner was asking me about the funds in California and I said I don't work in California :D

Set a personal target to develop both your preparation and presentation skills next time you work on something similar in any subject

Maybe I should not freak out about being questioned by the cross examiner from the other side cause I thought it will be (Z) -.- . I think I should memorize the script :D opps

What have I learned? (Law and criminality) :D

What have I learned? List specific things that I did not know before

Well I did not know that so many criminals were sentenced to death penalty and sometimes some of them are innocent. I only thought that holocaust was only happened in World War 2 about Hitler killing the Jews. Now I found out that holocaust is not only about that be it could be also about the Nagasaki and Hiroshima nuclear bomb. Now in these days holocaust has been referred to destruction or slaughter on a massive scale. I didn't know that in Austria they have a 5 stars prison :O

12 Angry Men

Last Thursday we watched the 12 Angry Men. It was a 1950s movie that talks about 12 jury deciding on whether if the 18 year old boy who they thought that he killed his own father have the death penalty. All the juries except for one voted that the boy should have the death penalty . The 8th jury voted that the boy should not have the death penalty and stated all the evidences that supported it. There was one jury who was highly against the 8th jury. After some persuasion they voted again and found out there was 2 people that voted that the boy should bot have the death penalty. From here it's starting to get more interesting. The 8th jury acted the crime scene and found out that the time taken to escape was far longer so the vote now was 3 guilty and 9 not guilty. Jury 10 was annoying and state that the boy was guilty, other jury were walking away from him and he said "Listen to me! Listen...!" Jury 4th said “I have. Now sit down and don't open your mouth again.” Jury 9th saw Jury 4th was rubbing his nose and stated that he saw the witness had the exact same mark as Jury 4th on the nose. Jury 8th stated that the lady wears glasses and did not wear her glasses when she saw the crime scene. There was a jury that against him and Jury 9th asked Jury 4th "Do you wear your glasses to sleep?" and he said no. Jury 4th changed his vote to not guilty. Now the vote was 1 guilty and 10 not guilty. The only jury that voted guilty yet said that the boy was guilty and we found out that when he threw the evidences on the table we saw a picture of him and his son. I believed that he doesn't like his son therefore this case reminded him his son or something. The movie at first was kinda boring and I don't get what were they talking about but later in the movie it was more interesting and I got what were they saying. Persuasion could save an innocent person's life :)- in the movie

What is cyberbullying?

No offence zahir but I'm going to use your name. Well he went into wen wen's facebook and wrote some stuff (which I'm not gonna say) and she was so mad at she almost cried. So I guess this was cyberbullying.

General Questions

  • Who is the perpetrator in this case? Who is the target?
From the first Chong Wei was the perpetrator and Nazar was the target but in the end
Chong Wei was the target while Nazar was the perpetrator.

  • What acts of cyberbullying have happened in this case? How serious would you rank each one as being?
Insults, targeting and excluding were the acts of cyberbullying that happened in this case. I think for insults will be 2, targeting will be 3 and excluding will be 3

Other members of Nazar’s Facebook group: What can you do, and should you have done, in this case? Why?

I think I could have asked Nazar to stop insulting Chong Wei and should tell the counselor to solve this case rather than doing the same thing to Chong Wei who did the same thing to him

Cyberbullying Scenarios

Cyberbullying Scenarios

Civil deals with property rights, personal dignity and freedom from personal injury. Civil penalties consist of fines and limitations on behaviour.

Criminal law makes certain behaviours illegal and punishable by fines and/or imprisonment. (For example, if you don’t get your faulty brakes fixed and you hit another car, that will likely fall under civil law. If you ram another car on purpose, that will fall under criminal law.)

Read each of the scenarios below, and rate the seriousness of each one from 1 to 5, where:

1 = Totally acceptable and appropriate

2 = Possibly wrong, but no action needs to be taken

3 = Wrong, and school authorities or Internet service providers should take action

4 = Wrong, and civil action could be taken by the target or the target’s parents

5 = Wrong, and criminal charges should be pressed

For any scenario you rate as a 3, 4 or 5, think about who is responsible, who should take action and what action should be taken.

1.A student posts a negative review of a concert given by another student’s band. The review focuses on the band members’ skill as musicians and the quality of their music.

2

2. A student posts a story making fun of a teacher, suggesting that he is unqualified to teach. The teacher’s name is not used, but he is clearly recognizable to anyone who knows him.

3

3. A student uploads to YouTube a video of his band performing a song that makes fun of teachers. No specific teacher is named or is identifiable from the song.

2

4. A student writes a letter to the school administration stating that a teacher has used improper discipline in class.

1

5. A student finds that photos of her, which were taken by her (now ex) boyfriend have been uploaded to his Facebook page. Then they were copied and reproduced in many more places, including photo-sharing sites. Her ex-boyfriend says that he is not responsible for what was done with the photos after he uploaded them.

3

6. A teacher asks students in her class to help write holiday greetings in a variety of languages for the school’s Web site. Without the teacher’s knowledge, one of the students’ contributions is a false and insulting statement against another teacher.

3

7. During an instant messaging session with several participants, a student accuses her boyfriend of cheating on her.

2

8. A student creates a Web site in which she criticizes school policies and suggests that several teachers, whom she names, are overly strict in their discipline.

3

9. A student creates a Facebook group in which he states that one of his teachers is a space alien who is scheming to abduct students and take them to her home planet.

1

10. A teacher discovers that students are being pressured by a popular student to remove an unpopular student from their Facebook “friends” lists.

The disability of Maxwell- Selectivity Perception

Selectivity of perception
  1. A child dying in poverty as seen by a doctor, economist, a social worker, the child’s father.
  • Doctor (Nicole) : Inabilit for medical aid to reach poor people
  • Social worker (Kai Song): We should help those who do not have the ability to support their child/ family. We are responsible to bring them up maybe in orphanages.
  • Economist (Maxwell) : Economic gap is getting bigger and this is not a healthy thing for a society. We should try to find out ways to improve the social and living condition, by providing mor job opportunities
  • Child's father (Bryan): I think that it is very sad o see my child dying in front of my eyes but I really do not have the ability to provide him with what he is entitled to. I felt sorry but I too hope that there will be aid from the society to help the poors.
  1. A sunset as seen by a religious figure, a physicist, an artist, a farmer
  • Religious figure (Bryan): Nothing is eternal. Everyone will die one day, no matter how healthy you are, how wealthy you are. Like the sun, it will set one day. Pray, listen to God, and you will have a wonderful life after death.
  • Artist (Nicole): This is a perfect opportunity for me to express the beauty of nature
  • Physicist (Kai Song): *Cough* Listen carefully, this is caused by the earth rotating around the axis. Issac Newton has discovered gravity.... bla bla bla bla bla
  • Farmer (Maxwell) : End of a day, I can finally go home, what a hard day! Nicole, my wife will not kill me as I have brought sawi home. And finally, my vegetables can rest from photosynthesis.
  1. A tree as seen by a biologist, a logger, an environmentalist, a native from Sarawak.
  • Logger (Nicole): The forest is a gold mine. *sings* "Money money money, must be funny int eh rich man's world"
  • A biologist (Bryan): To the logger, please stop cutting down tress as they lock up carbon dioxide. Without tress, there will be a rise in the earth's temperature..... *Continues for 30 minutes lecture*
  • An environmentalist (Maxwell): Agree with the biologist. We borrowed nature from God and we owed it from the future generation.
  • A native from Sarawak (Kai Song): See, now I can't go and use my sumpit due to the lack of forests. Loggers, please go away, I am gonna ask my cannibal friends to eat your brains.

For or Against Death Penalty

There are two sides of death penalty, for and against. First of all it is much cheaper to execute than putting prisoners in jail because the noose caused £5000 while putting prisoners in jail cause much more. Over 138 countries abolished death penalty and 58 more countries are still having death penalty and Malaysia is one of them. There are some down side of death penalty as you're taking people's life away and did you know the money of the cost of the whole process are from our taxes?? This means that we are contributing to the death of the person who sentence death penalty :( I think that the death penalty should be kept for some cases such as mass murder, firearm etc

Trip to Palace of Justice and the Talk

Last Thursday we went to the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya. I think that this visit was interesting and awesome since we're the first school to ever go to the Palace of Justice in Malaysia. GO US!!!!! :D I got a chance to asked some questions about Malaysian laws in the Conference Hall where all of the judges and lawyers meet. I also got to see old records and law books in the library. Some books were like since 1700!!!! We also went to the museum where I could see the model of the 2nd biggest court complex in the world and it was located at the Jalan Duta and the biggest complex is located at New Delhi, India. I could also went to the courtroom and also see an actual case that was going on in the court. This was the first time I ever been to the courtroom.

On Tuesday Mr Ramesh, a lawyer and a father of a student in malaysia. This talk was very informative. I found that you need to do a 3 years degree to be certified and there's a lot process to be done. I also found lawyers acted in the court after wearing the wig an the gown. We also asked a lot of questions about lawyer and laws.

The Play By Maxwell and Me :)

Baby Dumping

Officer: Maxwell Lim Hong Wei you are accuse from baby dumping.

Maxwell: Since when that’s my baby? It doesn’t even look like me.

Officer: Then what are you doing here. You don’t even look shocked when you saw the

dead body.

Maxwell: Well I’ve seen a lot of dead babies around Malaysia. This is not the first time

hahaha.

Officer: Are you stupid or what? How often do you find a dead baby on the streets.

Maxwell: Welcome to Malaysia!

Office: Enough of this nonsense, I don’t want to hear your crap.

Maxwell: Ok ok fine, I’ll tell you who it is. Let me just say it wasn’t my fault.

Officer: Then who’s fault was it?

Maxwell: It was my wife, she didn’t want me to wear protection.

Officer: So now it’s your wife fault? By the way how old is she?

Maxwell: How is that important?

Officer: Just tell and I might let you go.

Maxwell: Are you suggesting that I bribe you?

Officer: Just tell me how old is she.

Maxwell: Ok fine she’s not my wife. I’m too young and unstable to get married.

Officer: Then who is she?

Maxwell: Just another girl I met in a bar during Valentine’s Day.

Officer: You’re avoiding the real question. How old is she?

Maxwell: About 16.

Officer: That’s it you’re underarrest for statutary rape.

Maxwell: But it was Valentine’s Day. It is not easy to resist!

Moral for this story: DO IT AFTER 18 AND DUN DUMB BABIES!!!!! IT IS ONE OF THE COMMON CASE IN MALAYSIA..... POOR BABIES :(

Malaysia Crime Statistic

Thanks to Kai Song :D YOU ROCK!!!!!

I think the main crimes in Malaysia are burglary, kidnapping, rape and snatch and run. For example the Nurin Jazlin murder case.

Nurin Jazlin binti Jazimin was an eight-year old Malaysian girl reported missing after she had gone to a wet market located near her house in Section 1, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur to buy a hair clip on the night of August 20, 2007. She was last seen being dragged into a white van which the police were able to determine by enhancing footage caught on a CCTV installed nearby.

On the morning of September 17, 2007, a brand-new gym bag was left in front of a shop lot in PJS 1/48, Petaling Jaya, discovered by the shop owner. It contained an unidentified child's naked body which was stuffed in a fetal position; police believed that she had been dead for more than six hours before the discovery. A cucumber and a brinjal was found stuffed inside her genitals and had caused her rectum to rupture. It was determined that bacterial infection had contributed to her death. At the time, Nurin Jazlin's parents were not able to identify the body as their daughter's due to the changes in her physical features and it was even suggested that the child might be a foreigner, as she lacked scarring which would be caused by the mandatory BCG vaccinationagainst tuberculosis. Her parents initially maintained hope that their daughter might still be alive, and were the victims of several prank calls from people claiming that Nurin Jazlin was under their care. Later DNA tests conducted however confirmed the body as Nurin Jazlin's.

Reflection

Did you find rating the offences easy or difficult as an individual? Why?

I think it was easy for me to rate the offences as an individual because it was my opinion and from what I experience was different than other people.

Did you find rating the offences easy or difficult in a group? Why?

I think it was quite hard for me to rate the offences in a group because all of us had different opinions and we only had 2 that we all agree with.

What offences caused the most conflict/discussion? Why?

I think shouting racist abuse caused the most conflict/discussion because it was kind of a bad thing for shouting racist abuse because you're talking bad things about other people because they have different skin color or different religion than you. In the newspaper these days you can see many countries were fighting because of racism. So I think shouting racist abuse caused conflict/discussion.

What factors do we need to consider when looking at people’s perceptions of crimes/ offences?

The factors that we need to consider when looking at people's perceptions of crimes/offences are where are they from, the experience someone has to an offence etc
