12 Angry Men

Last Thursday we watched the 12 Angry Men. It was a 1950s movie that talks about 12 jury deciding on whether if the 18 year old boy who they thought that he killed his own father have the death penalty. All the juries except for one voted that the boy should have the death penalty . The 8th jury voted that the boy should not have the death penalty and stated all the evidences that supported it. There was one jury who was highly against the 8th jury. After some persuasion they voted again and found out there was 2 people that voted that the boy should bot have the death penalty. From here it's starting to get more interesting. The 8th jury acted the crime scene and found out that the time taken to escape was far longer so the vote now was 3 guilty and 9 not guilty. Jury 10 was annoying and state that the boy was guilty, other jury were walking away from him and he said "Listen to me! Listen...!" Jury 4th said “I have. Now sit down and don't open your mouth again.” Jury 9th saw Jury 4th was rubbing his nose and stated that he saw the witness had the exact same mark as Jury 4th on the nose. Jury 8th stated that the lady wears glasses and did not wear her glasses when she saw the crime scene. There was a jury that against him and Jury 9th asked Jury 4th "Do you wear your glasses to sleep?" and he said no. Jury 4th changed his vote to not guilty. Now the vote was 1 guilty and 10 not guilty. The only jury that voted guilty yet said that the boy was guilty and we found out that when he threw the evidences on the table we saw a picture of him and his son. I believed that he doesn't like his son therefore this case reminded him his son or something. The movie at first was kinda boring and I don't get what were they talking about but later in the movie it was more interesting and I got what were they saying. Persuasion could save an innocent person's life :)- in the movie

What is cyberbullying?

No offence zahir but I'm going to use your name. Well he went into wen wen's facebook and wrote some stuff (which I'm not gonna say) and she was so mad at she almost cried. So I guess this was cyberbullying.

General Questions

  • Who is the perpetrator in this case? Who is the target?
From the first Chong Wei was the perpetrator and Nazar was the target but in the end
Chong Wei was the target while Nazar was the perpetrator.

  • What acts of cyberbullying have happened in this case? How serious would you rank each one as being?
Insults, targeting and excluding were the acts of cyberbullying that happened in this case. I think for insults will be 2, targeting will be 3 and excluding will be 3

Other members of Nazar’s Facebook group: What can you do, and should you have done, in this case? Why?

I think I could have asked Nazar to stop insulting Chong Wei and should tell the counselor to solve this case rather than doing the same thing to Chong Wei who did the same thing to him

Cyberbullying Scenarios

Cyberbullying Scenarios

Civil deals with property rights, personal dignity and freedom from personal injury. Civil penalties consist of fines and limitations on behaviour.

Criminal law makes certain behaviours illegal and punishable by fines and/or imprisonment. (For example, if you don’t get your faulty brakes fixed and you hit another car, that will likely fall under civil law. If you ram another car on purpose, that will fall under criminal law.)

Read each of the scenarios below, and rate the seriousness of each one from 1 to 5, where:

1 = Totally acceptable and appropriate

2 = Possibly wrong, but no action needs to be taken

3 = Wrong, and school authorities or Internet service providers should take action

4 = Wrong, and civil action could be taken by the target or the target’s parents

5 = Wrong, and criminal charges should be pressed

For any scenario you rate as a 3, 4 or 5, think about who is responsible, who should take action and what action should be taken.

1.A student posts a negative review of a concert given by another student’s band. The review focuses on the band members’ skill as musicians and the quality of their music.

2

2. A student posts a story making fun of a teacher, suggesting that he is unqualified to teach. The teacher’s name is not used, but he is clearly recognizable to anyone who knows him.

6. A teacher asks students in her class to help write holiday greetings in a variety of languages for the school’s Web site. Without the teacher’s knowledge, one of the students’ contributions is a false and insulting statement against another teacher.

The disability of Maxwell- Selectivity Perception

Selectivity of perception
  1. A child dying in poverty as seen by a doctor, economist, a social worker, the child’s father.
  • Doctor (Nicole) : Inabilit for medical aid to reach poor people
  • Social worker (Kai Song): We should help those who do not have the ability to support their child/ family. We are responsible to bring them up maybe in orphanages.
  • Economist (Maxwell) : Economic gap is getting bigger and this is not a healthy thing for a society. We should try to find out ways to improve the social and living condition, by providing mor job opportunities
  • Child's father (Bryan): I think that it is very sad o see my child dying in front of my eyes but I really do not have the ability to provide him with what he is entitled to. I felt sorry but I too hope that there will be aid from the society to help the poors.
  1. A sunset as seen by a religious figure, a physicist, an artist, a farmer
  • Religious figure (Bryan): Nothing is eternal. Everyone will die one day, no matter how healthy you are, how wealthy you are. Like the sun, it will set one day. Pray, listen to God, and you will have a wonderful life after death.
  • Artist (Nicole): This is a perfect opportunity for me to express the beauty of nature
  • Physicist (Kai Song): *Cough* Listen carefully, this is caused by the earth rotating around the axis. Issac Newton has discovered gravity.... bla bla bla bla bla
  • Farmer (Maxwell) : End of a day, I can finally go home, what a hard day! Nicole, my wife will not kill me as I have brought sawi home. And finally, my vegetables can rest from photosynthesis.
  1. A tree as seen by a biologist, a logger, an environmentalist, a native from Sarawak.
  • Logger (Nicole): The forest is a gold mine. *sings* "Money money money, must be funny int eh rich man's world"
  • A biologist (Bryan): To the logger, please stop cutting down tress as they lock up carbon dioxide. Without tress, there will be a rise in the earth's temperature..... *Continues for 30 minutes lecture*
  • An environmentalist (Maxwell): Agree with the biologist. We borrowed nature from God and we owed it from the future generation.
  • A native from Sarawak (Kai Song): See, now I can't go and use my sumpit due to the lack of forests. Loggers, please go away, I am gonna ask my cannibal friends to eat your brains.

For or Against Death Penalty

There are two sides of death penalty, for and against. First of all it is much cheaper to execute than putting prisoners in jail because the noose caused £5000 while putting prisoners in jail cause much more. Over 138 countries abolished death penalty and 58 more countries are still having death penalty and Malaysia is one of them. There are some down side of death penalty as you're taking people's life away and did you know the money of the cost of the whole process are from our taxes?? This means that we are contributing to the death of the person who sentence death penalty :( I think that the death penalty should be kept for some cases such as mass murder, firearm etc

Trip to Palace of Justice and the Talk

Last Thursday we went to the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya. I think that this visit was interesting and awesome since we're the first school to ever go to the Palace of Justice in Malaysia. GO US!!!!! :D I got a chance to asked some questions about Malaysian laws in the Conference Hall where all of the judges and lawyers meet. I also got to see old records and law books in the library. Some books were like since 1700!!!! We also went to the museum where I could see the model of the 2nd biggest court complex in the world and it was located at the Jalan Duta and the biggest complex is located at New Delhi, India. I could also went to the courtroom and also see an actual case that was going on in the court. This was the first time I ever been to the courtroom.

On Tuesday Mr Ramesh, a lawyer and a father of a student in malaysia. This talk was very informative. I found that you need to do a 3 years degree to be certified and there's a lot process to be done. I also found lawyers acted in the court after wearing the wig an the gown. We also asked a lot of questions about lawyer and laws.
